Recent Poll: Formal or Informal?
On the Landscaping Network Facebook page, we posted the following photos and asked our Facebook fans which front yard they preferred. More than 55% of the commenters preferred the informal front yard, many of them citing lower maintenance as their reason.

Take away: Homeowners are highly concerned with the amount of maintenance landscaping requires.
With more than 200 comments from homeowners and landscaping professionals alike, we were able to draw these conclusions:
- Formal gardens are associated with high maintenance requirements
- Informal gardens are thought to require less maintenance
- Most homeowners want a low-maintenance landscape
- Homeowners preferred the informal garden
- Landscaping professionals preferred the formal garden
- It is important for a landscape to complement its home
- Flowing curves are perceived as more welcoming than straight lines
