Benefits of Family Fun

Why backyard play is good for the whole family

Space for backyard play makes sense for so many reasons. Many adults complain that since today's kids are so wrapped up in texting and video games, they're losing out on outdoor fun. With obesity rates at an all time high, active play is important for everyone.

Backyard games are a great way for the whole family to unwind and get exercise without adding a new lesson, activity, or sport to the already busy household schedule. Simply adding the right outdoor space for the games you love will encourage your family to come out and play. When you're creating your family-fun oriented outdoor design, start by brainstorming a list of the outdoor games you'd like to play.

In addition to spaces for family play, consider setting aside a portion of the yard just for the kids. A dedicated space gives kids a sense of ownership. It's a perfect spot for a small children's garden, a playhouse or a sandbox. It's also a great place to stash all the backyard toys out of the way before adult guests arrive for cocktail hour.

Light Up the Night with LaughsConsider your lighting needs when you design your play areas. Outdoor lighting will help keep the games going when the sun goes down.

A Yard that Grows with the FamilyConsider the long-range plans for your yard as your kids mature. Maybe the area you set aside for the playhouse today is the perfect size for the hot tub you're planning to install later.

A backyard designed for fun will make your home the hangout of choice as your kids grow from toddlers to teens. Most of all, it will give your whole family a place to relax, enjoy each other, and make memories.
