Reclaimed Garden Planters

Stylish planters made of salvaged materials

With the desire to be environmentally friendly stronger than ever many people are looking for ways to use reclaimed materials in the garden. There are a variety of salvaged and attractive planters available for use outdoors.

Custom by Rushton, a Denver-based remodeling and design company, creates unique garden planters. Their raised planter designs are built from 100% reclaimed old growth cedar and redwood and can be built to your exact specifications. Benches can be added to turn the planters into a piece of furniture, or make it easier to access vegetables for harvesting and care. Additionally, a wheel system can be incorporated for easy moving and a built-in irrigation system can be added for convenient watering.

NapaStyleTM, a California-based home and garden décor company, offers many reclaimed and repurposed items. Currently on sale, is their Vintage Tequila Barrel Planter, which would look wonderful in a casual Mediterranean style garden. The used tequila barrel has been cut in half with hand-forged iron framework and handles added for strength and mobility. Another option is their Starboard Boat Planter, which is made from a reclaimed wood hull. This planter is divided into three sections and is great for growing flowers, herbs, fruits and veggies in small spaces. NapaStyle ships nationwide.

Even the larger national stores have reclaimed planter options. If you are looking for something with a formal French or Italian style, try Restoration Hardware's Salvaged Wood Planter Collection. These planters are Artisan-crafted in Poland with either Northern European azobe wood or Norwegian timbers and finished with cast-iron or lead ornaments and trim. Pottery Barn offers Reclaimed Wood Barrel Planters that would look especially nice in a cottage style garden. These planters are built of reclaimed mahogany and have a distressed surface.
