Whether you're a fan of Lord of the Rings movies or you prefer sitting down to read the original words of Tolkien, you've probably imagined what the inside of the tiny underground homes inhabited by Bilbo or Frodo are like. Well, here's your chance to find out.

Hobbit Holes from Wooden Wonders are inspired by just such dwellings described by Tolkien. A couple in Maine came up with the idea when they wanted to have a home based business so they could spend more time with their sons. They describe the structures as creative, whimsical and fantastical.

Currently there are five Hobbit Hole models:

  • Playhouse
  • Shed
  • Cottage
  • Chicken Coop
  • Sauna

Hobbit Holes are delivered fully assembled throughout New England. A kit version is in the works so that people out of this area can also purchase Hobbit Holes.

The most notable features of the Hobbit Holes are the curved walls and round door. The walls are made from laminated layers of cedar that are bent on a hydraulic press. The doors have special hinges that ensure they open easily.

When it comes to customization options the possibilities are endless. There are a variety of sizes and styles to choose from. You'll get to select colors and exterior materials to match your home. Planters can be added up the roofline to create the look of an actual hobbit hole. Or opt for partial or in-ground installation for complete authenticity. Furthermore, a dormer can be built on the rear of the structure to provide extra head room.

So next time you find yourself daydreaming about having tea in the Shire check out Hobbit Holes. They are perfect for adding something quirky and functional to your property.
